Work is now beginning on the “Erbe 4.i – we continue to develop” construction project which was launched in collaboration with the consulting and planning company io-consultants GmbH & Co. KG. In future, medical instruments will be manufactured in Rangendingen, Germany for customers all around the world. io-consultants is responsible for the lead consulting relating to the new building, the process and logistics planning, and the kitchen and clean room planning. The consulting firm from Heidelberg is uniting functionality, design and sustainability in a holistic design.
Erbe Elektromedizin GmbH’s “Erbe 4.i – we continue to develop” project is beginning to take shape. After the building permit was issued in February, construction companies will soon be starting work at the company’s site on the outskirts of Rangendingen.
Erbe’s management invited guests – including Minister of State Annette Widmann-Mauz (member of the German Bundestag), Baden-Württemberg’s Minister of Economic Affairs Dr. Nicole Hoffmeister-Kraut, and Rangendingen’s mayor Manfred Haug – to the ceremonial unveiling of the construction model on Friday, where architects from io-consultants presented insights into the sustainable building design. The one-megawatt photovoltaic system, the largest in the region to date, is part of the sustainable project philosophy and will be the highlight of the “Erbe 4.i” project. The eco-friendly and homogenous construction method and building structure is primarily based on wood: wood and wood-based materials will be used for facades and fittings, along with recycled concrete and recycled aluminum. The use of renewable energies is integral to the concept.
The 25,000 m2 plant will be used as a medical instruments hub for the Erbe Group’s global operations from 2023 onwards. Production and some development and logistics functions will be located there. Current estimations predict that 400 additional jobs will be created at the site.
Florian Heimerl, partner and project manager at io-consultants, emphasizes: “The goal of the new building complex is to create the ideal environment to promote the health and development of employees as well as the company. At the same time, we are striving to make best possible use of resources, e.g. with CO2-reduced construction throughout the building’s life cycle. io-consultants is implementing the project with its Lead Consulting // plus approach, from building concept through to go-live, any necessary certifications / staff trainings , and ramp-up.”
Dr. Hoffmeister-Kraut also praised the sustainable construction method: “I am delighted that Erbe Elektromedizin GmbH is setting standards at the Rangendingen site with its modern and sustainable building. This will provide the structural framework for further innovations from Baden-Württemberg in medical technology. The focus on sustainable construction here proves that ecology, environmental protection and successful entrepreneurship can indeed go hand-in-hand in this traditionally significant sector in Baden-Württemberg. It is a strength of our many successful family-owned companies and a clear benefit for Baden-Württemberg as a healthcare and business region.”
Managing Director Christian O. Erbe emphasized the growth of the company and the related importance of investing in expanding the production site for the development, manufacture and logistics of surgical instruments: “This product sector has accounted for a huge proportion of our sales growth in recent years, and we expect this trend to intensify. It is therefore crucial to our company’s future to get this site expansion right. Environmental sustainability is a core consideration for the new building, and fully consistent with our corporate strategy goals.”
